Calendula is one of those scents that divides a room - love it or hate it, it usually ends up in the same basket as lavender: passionately split between team 'it smells like grandma' and 'this is the best smell in the world.'
(Personally, I find the smell of grandma comforting - so that's a win-win.)
Unlike lavender, however, calendula isn't exactly a household name, and most people don't actually know what it smells like.
The best way to describe calendula's scent is deeply earthy, rich, and herbal. It smells more like freshly cut flower stems than what you may expect a floral to typically smell like.
I personally find it really grounding and soothing - a welcome change from the sugary sweet florals that dominate so many scented products these days.
